The gunners have been linked with Wilfried Zaha since the start of the transfer window and they even had a £40million bid rejected by Crystal Palace despite the Ivorian worldwide having his brother say that it's always been a dream for him to play for the North Londoners.

The Ivorian has been in fine form ever since he returned back to Selhurst Park from Manchester United and this summer he has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal.

Wilfried Zaha has not asked Crystal Palace for a transfer and should be at the club next season, says Roy Hodgson. "I have had it all over the years, being told I'm not good enough", he told the Sun.

Iwobi spoke at the recent Africa Cup of Nations where his Nigeria side finished third, and outlined his desire to prove his doubters wrong when he returns to north London.

Arsenal have not come close to making a bid that his close to Palace' valuation of Zaha.

Iwobi obviously feels strongly that his place is under threat for him to speak out so publicly about his fears, and we can only hope that he steps up his game considerably this season and proves he is real Arsenal first team materiel.

"As far as I'm concerned, he is coming back, he is our player and I've been given no information that the club is interested in selling him at the moment".

It is understood Palace have made an £8m bid for Everton midfielder James McCarthy, who has made just one Premier League appearance since suffering a broken leg against West Brom in January 2018.

Iwobi has insisted he will not "chicken out" if Zaha arrives in a big-money move to rival his spot in Unai Emery's plans.

"So whenever the chance comes I always try and prove I should be starting".

"If it comes to that I would have no choice but to leave".

Arsenal are now tipped to launch a new push to sign Zaha in the coming days.

"Maybe you think: 'Football is not for you and you don't want to play no more'".
