Ryan Murphy Reveals American Horror Story: 1984 Characters

13 July 2019

Murphy likes to throw a twist into American Horror Story every year however. Murphy uploaded several videos to his Instagram, introducing the cast and announcing that filming on season 9 had officially begun.

The video starts in a spooky cabin, with a shadowy, hooded figure walking ominously towards us, before the smooth sounds of Dan Hartman's "I Can Dream About You", kick in on the soundtrack.

Creator Ryan Murphy announced the castings on social media telling fans, "To celebrate the first day of filming the NINTH Season of AMERICAN HORROR STORY, here's the official 1984 cast announcement along with some fantastic 80s lewks".

As far as the returning cast, it seems as if Emma Roberts is going to be front and center this season, along with veterans Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman, Cody Fern, and John Carroll Lynch.

Angelica Ross and Mathew Morrison are among the additions. Ross just took her final bows on Pose with this week's episode.

In case you were wondering, the third video features Glee alum Matthew Morrison, rocking a very large fake member.

Paulson is now shooting Ryan Murphy's other series, "Ratched", which is appearing on Netflix.

It's still unclear what AHS: 1984 will be about, although a teaser released in the spring alludes to it being an homage to slasher movies of the 1980s à la Friday the 13th. The cast whirl and twirl in front of the camera...and oh yeah, the monster for this new season is revealed to be a huge penis.

Still, it's best not to rule out the Orwellian nature of the title.

Gird your loins, American Horror Story fans: the first images from season nine of the horror anthology series have landed and they are (summer) campy as all hell.
