Trail Blazers acquire Kent Bazemore, send Evan Turner to Hawks

25 June 2019

On Monday, the Hawks once again were active on the trade market as they and Blazers have reportedly agreed to a trade that will send Kent Bazemore to Portland and Evan Turner to Atlanta. He is set to enter the final year of his contract as he signed a four-year, $70 million extension with Atlanta in July 2016. In that deal, they took on Solomon Hill's expiring contract, showing they're not afraid of eating expiring money for future flexibility and assets.

Bazemore, 29, appeared in 67 games this past season for the Hawks, averaging 11.6 points on.402 shooting, 2.3 assists and 3.9 rebounds over 24.5 minutes a night.

Wojnarowski added that Bazemore provides "an insurance policy on free agent Rodney Hood" for the Blazers.

There may be more transactions yet to come, maybe even including Bazemore and Turner.

Bazemore may not have the same versatility as Turner, but is probably a slight upgrade overall.

Bazemore is expected to opt in to the previous year of his deal, worth $19 million. In any case, he's probably a better fit for the Blazers as they try to make another deep playoff run. Turner is a good offensive player, but shooting isn't one of his strengths.

The Hawks continued their busy offseason by swapping Bazemore for Turner in a move that's a little tougher to understand from their perspective, at least from a basketball perspective. Turner has always been known as a tremendous teammate, and was instrumental in building the strong culture in Portland.
