Hazard contributed to 31 goals in the league last season, scoring 21 in all competitions for Chelsea - his best ever tally at the club.

The Real Madrid new boy bent the ball into the top corner from outside the penalty area to excite supporters of both his country and new club.

"I hope you understand I had to pursue my next chapter, just as each and every one of you should when you have the chance to pursue your dreams", he added.

Azpilicueta took to his official Instagram page to post about Hazard's move, wishing his former team-mate success at his new club, Real Madrid.

"The memories he leaves us with will not fade". Eden is an example to all of a player who can go back to all his old clubs with his head held high.

"He has been a model professional throughout his time at the club, a wonderful individual to have around and a joy to work with. We're all looking forward to how that new chapter at Real Madrid starts".

Hazard, who scored 110 goals in seven seasons at Chelsea, will be expected to help plug the gap has long-been admired by Zidane and Madrid president Florentino Perez.

And Courtois - whose first season in Madrid resulted in a third-place finish in LaLiga - is expecting big things from Hazard at the Santiago Bernabeu.

He continued: "Defensively, as much as they've signed Militao, I don't think he gets in ahead of [Sergio] Ramos or [Raphael] Varane".

But Hazard is the gem Zinedine Zidane can build his new team around and brings the kind of stardust Madrid fans have craved ever since the sale of Ronaldo to Juventus last summer.

And despite their current transfer ban for two years, Chelsea are said to have made €70m offer for Valencia star Goncalo Guedes.
