McIlroy recovers from 'horrendous' start to make cut

18 May 2019

Woods was 12 behind Koepka but one ahead of the projected +3 cut at 8.30pm BST.

The second round of the PGA Championship is officially upon us.

Woods said he did not play a nine-hole practice round on Wednesday because he felt ill, not just for extra rest, but said he felt good during the round. If you're not going to drive it, like I said, it tests every asset of your game. "They were in my favor, and I always consider myself pretty lucky wherever I go that I get really good support".

McIlroy could certainly not say the same as he limped to the turn in 40 after starting his round double bogey, bogey, double bogey, but the four-time major victor produced a hat-trick of birdies from the fourth and picked up another shot on the eighth.

Brooks Koepka began his defense of last year's PGA Championship on Thursday. "I love the positivity, and I love the support that I get".

Koepka failed to birdie the two par 5s, missing a 10-foot birdie putt on No. 13 and scrambling for par on the easier fourth hole.

They claim Woods and his girlfriend, Erica Herman, the restaurant's general manager, knew their son battled alcoholism, according to the suit, and that Woods "was directly responsible for ensuring that his employees and management ... were not over-serving its employees/customers", TMZ reported. He didn't birdie his first hole until the 15th hole.

"I love playing over here", he said.

But those limitations were also cited as the reasons Woods would never post another tour win, let alone a major victory.

The 43-year-old American superstar's electrifying triumph last month at Augusta National has made him the focus of attention on the same layout where he won the 2002 US Open.

This is the Frankenstein monster Woods helped create, and now Koepka threatens the resurgent Tiger's designs on the Nicklaus grail of 18 major victories.

For the first time since he won The Open at Royal Birkdale in 2017, Spieth has opened a major championship with consecutive rounds under par. "Sometimes it's just about how few bogeys and doubles you make this week". Woods was paired with Koepka and Francesco Molinari (also +2) in the first round and will be with the same group on Friday.

"That was probably the (worst) score he could have shot today", Woods said. "But all I can do is do my best, I think".

Koepka then showed what he has done lately - back-to-back U.S. Open titles, a PGA Championship and an ideal start in his bid to join Woods as the only back-to-back winners of the PGA Championship in stroke play.

"It wasn't as clean as I'd like to have it, for sure", Woods said of his 6 on the par-4 10th hole. I'm still trying to get the strength back in my legs.
