"We're just really excited", Truex said.
"At that last restart, I tried something a little bit different and it didn't work out".
Truex gave Joe Gibbs Racing its sixth victory in nine races this season and won on a track shorter than a mile for the first time in his career.
"At the end of the day, we drove up to him and you get bad tight behind people", Bowyer said.
Truex led the most laps on Saturday, but he had to hold off Joey Logano and Clint Bowyer over the final 50 laps.
Logano held on for second. With about 40 to go, Bowyer almost caught him, but Truex never let him pass and finally, Bowyer relinquished the second spot to Joey Logano, who seemed to have the faster auto of the top two. Finally it all came together for his 20th career Cup victory.
"Definitely the first short-track win is pretty awesome, too", Truex said.
"I've always loved coming to this race track". Bowyer was third and Kevin Harvick fourth, giving Stewart-Haas Racing two top-four finishers. Fun race, just gosh.
"If we can win three in a row here at Richmond and match names like that - the Godfathers of our sport that built our sport to what it is today - would be pretty cool", he said.
"That's a little frustrating, but when you're frustrated with second, that's a good sign about where your team's at". "A decent green-flag cycle got us up". Leader Kyle Busch was penalized for speeding on pit road and sent back to the 24th position. He could very quickly get win no. 4 at Richmond.
Eight cars failed prerace inspection, including three that failed twice. They include the cars of local favorite Denny Hamlin, a three-time victor on the 0.75-mile oval, Chase Elliott and Matt Tifft. As a result, a team member for each of those teams, likely each team's race engineer, will be ejected upon the completion of inspection.
Five other teams failed inspection and had their qualifying speeds and pit selections disallowed.
Seven drivers who failed inspection and will go to the end of the pack include Erik Jones, Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson, Daniel Suarez, Aric Almirola and Matt Tifft. I slid up and I got tight and couldn't turn underneath him.
Busch, who had led 103 laps, worked his way back up to 15th place by the end of second stage.
No racing next week for the Easter break.
Kyle Busch has grabbed the lead from Kevin Harvick during the the NASCAR Cup race at Richmond. Cup and Xfinity racers are back at it again in two weeks at Talladega Speedway.
Average Speed of Race Winner: 99.852 miles per hour. Rosenqvist was second fastest when he went off course into a tire barrier and the penalty for causing a caution was the loss of his two fastest qualifying laps.
Lead Changes: 8 among 5 drivers. MTJ ended up leading a race-high 186 laps, helping Toyota maintain its dominance in Virginia's capital city.
