Lego breaks record with image made up of Star Wars figurines

Eighteen years ago Lego released their first Rebel blockade runner.

What it doesn't have is a display stand, since this is not part of the Ultimate Collector's edition line - despite the similarities the box art has. The radar dish also doubles as a handle so the set can be carried and moved easily. Princess Leia feature both a new printed skirt as well as alternative white legs (so she can sit down). Lego chose to add one more for good measure, throwing in Leia's adoptive father Bail Organa as a bonus. In the comparison photo below, you can see that the new 75244 Tantive IV is longer and more detailed than the 10198 Tantive IV from 2009 which sold for $149.99 with 1,408 pieces.

The 950 km/h ship was first seen in the opening scenes of Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977. There are two removable escape pods and the ship's exterior opens for access to playable areas like the cockpit, cargo hold, conference room and control console.

The final tally of minifigures was 36,440, easily breaking the previous record of 35,210.

The creative forces behind the hit shows The Freemaker Adventures and LEGO Star Wars: All-Stars, Bill Motz and Bob Roth, will headline a LEGO Star Wars animation free-for-all featuring special guests Leland Chee (Lucasfilm) and Jason Cosler (LEGO Group)!

"With the culmination of the Star Wars Saga arriving before the end of the year, the Star Wars: Episode IX panel is one you will definitely not want to miss!" reads the description of the panel on the Celebration site.

There will be tree sets of exclusive figures: a First Order 4-pack that includes Kylo Ren, Commander Pyre, Mountain Trooper, and an MSE (or mouse) droid... That's a shame, but it's still a very nice set without it.

"LEGO Star Wars starship measures over 5" (14cm) high, 24" (62cm) long and 7" (19cm) wide.
