Golden Tate Reportedly Down to Patriots and Steelers in Free Agency

15 March 2019

Sources confirmed that New England's offer was for roughly $30 million over four years, which is in the ballpark of the Titans' four-year, $36 million deal.

In the aftermath of their decision to trade away superstar receiver Odell Beckham, the Giants have insisted that they have a plan without telling us what that plan is.

"Tate is a 10-year veteran with 611 career receptions for 7,214 yards and 38 touchdowns, more of a possession threat than a player who is going to rip through a defense", writes Schwartz.

The Notre Dame product posted 795 yards and four touchdowns last season, though he was on pace to eclipse 1,000 yards before the Detroit Lions shipped him to the Philadelphia Eagles at the trade deadline. And the Giants certainly had a need at the position after dealing Beckham to the Browns. He made at least 90 catches in the previous four seasons.

To be honest, this is a decent signing by Giants GM Dave Gettleman right now. With Beckham traded to the Cleveland Browns, Eli Manning now has a crew of Tate, Sterling Shepard, Evan Engram and, of course, Saquon Barkley, to spread the ball to in NY.

The Giants' top receiver in the Beckham void is Sterling Shepard, whose best production comes from the slot. That goes the same for WR Corey Coleman. In effect, that makes Tate the 14th-highest-paid wide receiver in total guaranteed money, or the 19th-highest-paid wide receiver in total value.

The Giants did not want to give $11.1 million to Collins on the franchise tag and he got $15 million per year for three years from the Redskins.
