Congressional Dems ‘Exasperated’ With Ocasio-Cortez: ‘Don’t Attack Your Own People’

13 January 2019

One House member who is trying to mentor Ocasio-Cortez on how to get along and get ahead in Washington is Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D-NY), according to Politico.

In responding to the Politico article Friday morning, Ocasio-Cortez quoted a character from the comic book Watchmen to signal her intention to resist the influence of more experienced lawmakers.

Ocasio-Cortez's chief of staff hit back at the Democrats quoted in the Politico piece, comparing them to King George III during the American Revolution, and approvingly quote-tweeting a tweet comparing them to people who opposed civil rights demonstrations in the 1960s. For example, during a recent "60 Minutes" interview, she explained that being "morally right" is more important than being factually accurate.

The new lawmaker calls the plan the "Green New Deal". A 70 percent marginal rate on income of $10 million would be effective only on a person's income above $10 million.

During Ronald Reagan's presidency, the top rate was first cut to 50 percent and then lowered again to 28 percent. In 2019, the 37-percent rate applies to income over $612,350 for a married couple filing jointly.

The freshman democratic socialist's campaign "did not have the required workers' compensation coverage from March 31, 2018 to April 30, 2018, and was issued a final penalty of $1,500, which it paid", Melissa Stewart, director of public information at the state's Workers Compensation Board told the New York Daily News.

"I think we have a decisive mandate from this electorate, this 116th Congressional class to be bold".

Pressley said while she and most members are now focused on the partial government shutdown, she looks forward to continuing having a dialogue with like-minded members as they consider crafting policy.

Additionally, Ocasio-Cortez accused: President Trump "he has a proven track record of discrimination against anybody who's really non-white in the United States" predating his 2016 election to the White House.

"If you look at the majority of new Democrats in the house, they tend to be, I say, center-left, if they are not left-left", he said.

"I don't know enough about her to be able to determine if she's going to be a good member or what", said Rep. "It's not the same thing, at all", she said.
