Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Cotswold country weekender has been revealed

10 January 2019

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is taking an increasingly visible role in the British royal family as she becomes the patron of four organizations including the prestigious National Theatre.

Two of the patronages, The National Theatre and The Association of Commonwealth Universities, have been passed on to Meghan by the Queen, who has held the roles for 45 and 33 years respectively.

The other, The Association of Commonwealth Universities, is an organization she visited last month - one of many that she made as she planned her royal work.

Meghan Markle arrived at Smart Works at around 11am, where she has privately been working over the past year and has spent time with women who have benefitted from the charity.

When it comes to royal mistakes, it's quite a biggie, considering these are Meghan's first-ever royal patronages given to her by the Queen and there was growing interest over what they would be. She will also be the patron of Mayhew, which works to "improve the lives of animals and people to better communities both in London and internationally".

Meghan Markle is applying her passions to her work with the royal family! Her Royal Highness feels she can use her position to focus attention on, and make a particular difference to these organisations and, more widely, the sectors they each represent. She also served as an ambassador for United Nations Women.

The Palace confirms that Markle has had private meetings with all of these organizations for the past year.

Meghan has always been a vocal feminist, working with organizations like One World Vision to learn about the challenges women and girls living in Dubai and Mumbai.

Kensington Palace confirmed Meghan would be visiting the Smart Works today, and will be making public visits to the other three organisations over the coming weeks.

The Duchess of Sussex has become the patron of four organisations.

Mayhew is an animal welfare charity which helps cats and dogs through community initiatives and veterinary care.

Animal welfare organisation Mayhew tweeted: "We're honoured to reveal that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex has become a Patron of Mayhew".

Meghan will continue in her role as joint-patron for The Royal Foundation, which was set up by Princes William and Harry.
