Final Fantasy XV DLC cancelled as director quits

10 November 2018

It's not all over quite yet, with Episode Ardyn due to launch in spring 2019 and more bits and bobs coming before then. Episodes concerned with characters Aranea, Lunafreye and Noctis have all been ditched, though the Ardyn pack - which focuses on the game's main antagonist - will still come in March 2019.

The cancellation of XV's DLC is presumably linked to the huge $33 million loss Square Enix took during the second half of this year. Final Fantasy XV was considered a success, but this news does put an abrupt end to the for future episode DLCs planned for the game.

Like we've mentioned, Square Enix and Tabata broke the news on a recent livestream, which Enix instated a while ago as a means to communicate with Final Fantasy XV fans. While most gamers were no doubt expecting nothing but good news, Square Enix revealed that the majority of the game's DLC has been canceled, and director Hajime Tabata has quit. What's next in store for Final Fantasy XV, we'll have to wait and see. Developer Tabata thanked the game's loyal fans, and announced that he plans to pursue new projects and will start his own business.

"In regards to my next endeavors and near future, I have a project that I truly wish to solidify as my next challenge after Final Fantasy XV".

Finally, fans will be happy to hear that Final Fantasy XV will be getting a new cross-promotion event with Final Fantasy XIV Online dubbed "Adventurer From Another World". "For that reason, I have made a decision to leave my current position and start my own business in order to achieve my goal". The title is set to include 10 more bosses along with a couple of other new nifty things such as weapons and costumes.

Final Fantasy 15 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
