Starbucks unveils holiday cups and new festive drinks

02 November 2018

You don't have to enjoy coffee to buy a Starbucks holiday cup. But this year, one of the cups is adorned with mistletoe!

Inspiration: Starbucks chose to embrace the holiday spirit this year, CNN reports.

"They have a nice array of images that sort of play to Christmas from the red and green standpoint", Egan said.

"As a brand that is intensely personal, we are humbled by how passionate customers are about our holiday cups", Gould said.

History: Starbucks started releasing holiday cups in 1997.

That's like an every-day Starbucks holiday happy hour, sort of. The designs have sparked a wide range of emotions through the years. Customers can get 50 cents off their holiday drink if they buy one after 2 p.m. between this Saturday and January 7, USA Today reports.

Of course, it's just not the holidays without some new holiday treats, and this year Starbucks is launching two new holiday food items.

Also making a comeback are the six holiday beverages, including Peppermint Mocha, Toasted White Chocolate Mocha, Caramel Brulee Latte, Chestnut Praline Latte, Gingerbread Latte and Egg Nog Latte.

Starbucks has four new cup designs featuring patterns developed from the Starbucks Christmas blend coffee packaging.

A year ago we got the brand's first-ever colour-in holiday cup, giving customers to opportunity to create one-of-a-kind designs, but for 2018 the coffee giant has gone totally classic with retro-graphic patterns.

No matter your stance on these cup designs, if you want to wrap your mitts around a free reusable cup, if you are among the first 50 customers to purchase a holiday beverage at participating Starbucks Canada locations on November 2, you can get a reusable red cup for free, while supplies last.
