Indian couple died while taking selfie in USA park

Web Desk: It is a heart-wrenching incident, in which an Indian couple died after falling 800 feet in an area with steep terrain in California's Yosemite National Park, reported NDTV.

Viswanath's brother told local media in India that he believes the couple were taking a selfie when the tragedy happened.

The pair, who lived in the United States, were travel enthusiasts and had a blog called Holidays and HappilyEverAfters that chronicled their adventures.

"A lot of us including yours truly is a fan of daredevilry attempts of standing at the edge of cliffs and skyscrapers", they wrote in an Instagram post from the rim of the Grand Canyon, "but did you know that wind gusts can be FATAL??? Is our life worth one photo?"

In her post, Moorthy had urged social media users to think about their lives rather than take risky photos for the gram.

More than 250 people have died worldwide in the last six years while taking selfies, according to a recent study from researchers in India published in the Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care. Around the world selfie deaths too have become common as some try to shoot a picture standing at precarious places. The couple would have liked to position itself to the edge of the cliff and fell in conditions that will probably never be determined with precision.

In an eerie coincidence, a man who had hiked to the same spot with his girlfriend captured pictures of Meenakshi prior to her fall, saying she appears in the background of two of their photos.

Sean Matteson said Moorthy stood out from the crowd enjoying sunset at the overlook because her hair was dyed bright pink.

Authorities said that park visitors first spotted the couple late Wednesday. But she seemed comfortable.

"We still do not know what caused them to fall".

The travel blogger had reportedly been assumed to be taking selfies with her husband when they both fell down. "She didn't seem like she was in distress or anything".

The report said that the husband and wife had recently moved from NY after Vishnu Viswanath took a job as a systems engineer at Cisco, based in San Jose.

"There is a railing at the overlook, but there are plenty of places you can go near there without railings", she said.
