Nintendo announces final two characters of 'Super Smash Bros. Ultimate'

01 November 2018

As Nintendo has previously stated, every new fighter added to Super Smash Bros.

Shadow the Hedgehog, Yuri Kozukata (Fatal Frame), Isaac (Golden Sun), the Black Knight (Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance), Thwomp, Spring Man (ARMS), a Wily Capsule, the flies and a flyswatter from Mario Paint, Tiki (Fire Emblem: Awakening), Vince (Art Academy), Guile (Street Fighter), and Akira (Virtual Fighter) were among the new Assist Trophies.

These selections aren't particularly surprising-they were expected before the whole Grinch debacle-but they are a welcome finale to the 74 fighter lineup.

Nintendo has announced all the fighters player can find "in the game", but will be developing DLC with one fighter, stage and music sets for $5.99. These characters will be created from scratch exclusively for SSBU.

Ken will be an echo fighter for Ryu, meaning he'll be essentially the same with a different appearance and animations, series creator Masahiro Sakurai said in Thursday's Nintendo Direct livestream. This means no Echo Fighters, significantly reducing the risk of buyer's remorse. People who purchase the pass will receive a Mii Fighter costume of Xenoblade Chronicles 2's Rex, which will launch on December 7. Other fighters arriving at some point during 2019 include Isabelle, Pichu, Ken, Young Link and Daisy.

Piranha Plant is also coming. These can be assigned to character fighters. Players will be able to post and watch gameplay videos and check statistics in the app. With Nintendo Switch, players can throw down whenever and wherever they like in Handheld or Tabletop mode while enjoying online play. But the Master Hands transform into looping beams of light that carry away the characters, turning them into spirits.

This mode takes the place of previous Smash games offering tons of trophies from the represented Nintendo franchises.
