Floyd Mayweather accepts Khabib Nurmagomedov's challenge: 'We're fighting'

18 October 2018

The retired boxing star responded to Khabib Nurmagomedov's call out, saying he's ready to take on another UFC lightweight champion.

In regards to where this fight would potentially take place, he thinks the only option is Las Vegas, Nevada.

"We fighting. I'm my own boss, so I can't say what's going on on Khabib's end, but on my end, we can make it happen". "I can't say what's going on in Khabib's end but I can make it happen on my end".

The US boxing icon touched on Nurmagomedov's condition that, should the fight happen, it would have to be outside Las Vegas - where the Russian star is facing suspension and has had his $2 million McGregor fight purse withheld due to the post-fight brawl that marred his victory.

"When I face Khabib, I'm getting a nine-figure payday", said Mayweather.

The likelihood of this completely hypothetical and fantastical matchup happening is slim to none...but we kind of felt that way with Mayweather vs Conor McGregor didn't we? $100 million more, guaranteed...

Nurmagomedov (27-0) defended his lightweight championship against McGregor at UFC 229 on October 6 in Las Vegas.

McGregor had been eyeing a rematch with Mayweather following his 10th-round TKO loss past year.

As for what the future holds for Nurmagomedov, White says nothing has been decided yet but he did shoot down a rumor that started floating around on Tuesday that an offer had already been made for $15 million for a rematch against McGregor. [But] in the jungle there is only one king.

However, as with McGregor, Mayweather expects the fight to be in the ring rather than the Octagon. He did also add that Khabib would have to "conduct himself like a professional" after the fight if it did come to fruition. Only one king. Of course, I am the king because he can not drop McGregor but I drop him easily.

The same will obviously be true for Nurmagomedov, who is a skilled grappler and possesses what might be the best ground game in the UFC. OK, Khabib. You got my leftovers.

And the Mexican is keen on a rematch with Mayweather, who defeated him comfortably in 2013.

"Let's go Floyd. We have to fight now: 50-0 versus 27-0".

"Unless he's just going to go do it for money, because he is going to get beat".
