Usain Bolt scores two goals for Central Coast Mariners soccer team

12 October 2018

Playing in a central striking role against A-League aspirants Macarthur South West United, Bolt struggled for touch early on Friday evening for the Mariners but flourished after halftime. He celebrated the first goal with his "To Di World" pose and the second one with a Fortnite dance.

Your first start and scoring two goals, it was a good feeling. "I'm happy I could come here and show the world I'm improving", Bolt said.

The partnership with former Leeds and Aston Villa man Ross McCormack and Bolt already has the potential to surpass the pairing of Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe. "I'm keen to be a Mariner, to play my best and get into the team".

Just a little 10 minutes later, Bolt's constant pressing yielded results for him when he was right in front of the goal to make the best of a confusion and collision between South West United's defender and goalkeeper.

Having worked hard on his fitness since that debut on the Central Coast, the 32-year-old was able to last the majority of the game, but there remains much room for improvement in his general play before he can contemplate winning an A-League contract.

Bolt is a Manchester United fan, and while things are not going well for the Premier League club now, they aren't quite bad enough to justify handing him a contract, or even a trial.

The sprint king was left prone on the turf after being kicked in the groin by Tom Whiteside, but picked himself up and got a first shot away midway through the half.

With the Mariners already 2-0 up, Bolt netted his first goal for the club in the second-half, racing through on goal before firing a fine left-footed finish into the bottom corner.

After Friday's game Bolt said that he hoped to sit down with Mariners' management to sort out his future.

Bolt retired from the athletics track following the 2017 world championships in London, where he pulled up with a hamstring injury.
