But on Sunday, Swift told her 112 million Instagram followers that she was backing and would vote for two Democrats running in Tennessee in the USA congressional midterm elections on November 6. But they also enraged many conservatives, especially those in the country music community where Swift got her start as a teenager and went on to win 10 Grammys.

Buzzfeed claim that the organization has seen 5,183 new voter registrations in the state so far this month - at least 2,144 of which were in the last 36 hours, she said, up from 2,811 for the entire month of September and just 951 in August.

In her lengthy Instagram post over the weekend, Swift bashed Blackburn, writing, "As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I can not support Marsha Blackburn".

Swift and Bredesen have also worked together in the past: Earlier this year, Bredesen posted an old group photo featuring the two and wrote, "In honor of #NationalPoliceWeek, here's a #TBT from when [Taylor Swift] & I joined the TN Assoc. of Police to launch 'Delete Online Predators, ' an education campaign to combat Internet crimes against children".

Taylor Swift may have risked her reputation to endorse two Democratic congressional nominees in Tennessee, but according to Vote.org, her Instagram post Sunday has inspired a surge in voter registration.

On Sunday, Swift broke her political silence with an Instagram message.

Swift said she could not "vote for someone who will not be willing to fight for dignity for all Americans, no matter their skin color, gender or who they love". "Happy voting", she wrote.

"Im sure Taylor Swift doesnt know anything about (Blackburn)", Trump said. They are running for the Senate and House of Representatives, respectively. I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country. For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway.

Bredesen, a former Governor of Tennessee, thanked Swift for her endorsement on Twitter, writing that he was "honoured" to have her support.

President Donald Trump, who has hailed Blackburn as an "outstanding person & great supporter of mine", brushed off Swifts Instagram post Monday night. "Let's say that I like Taylor's music about 25% less now".
