#ChargeGate and 5GHz WiFi fix for iPhone XS is out now

09 October 2018

Thankfully, Apple's new iOS 12.0.1 update has now been released, addressing the issue with a 104MB download that "fixes an issue where some iPhone XS devices did not immediately charge when connected to a Lightning cable". Users would plug their iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max for charging, but it would not reflect that the device was charging. Wireless charging still replenished the battery.

iOS 12.0 final was actually a big deal. iOS 12.1 beta, which went into external testing with developers recently, is also extremely notable as it's the first major upgrade for iOS 12.

Apple says iOS 12.0.1 "fixes an issue where some iPhone XS devices did not immediately charge when connected to a Lightning cable". If you've been online at all in the past few weeks, you've probably read about a charging issue affecting some iOS 12 devices.

Additionally, iOS 12.0.1 also patches the security vulnerability discovered last week that may have allowed an attacker to bypass a passcode and view photos or contacts from the Lock screen using VoiceOver, according to Apple's security content page.

Finally, the update will fix a small issue that prevented some subtitles appearing in videos.

Another change people might notice is that the update will restore the original position of the "123 key" on the iPad keyboard. It also addresses problems with video subtitles and Bluetooth being unavailable.

Users can download the latest update by navigating to Settings General Software Update on their iPhone or iPad.
