‘Premier League is tough,’ admits Liverpool’s Naby Keita

14 September 2018

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita says it will take time to justify the £52 million fee the club paid for the Guinea global.

With the time difference in the States - where Brazil beat El Salvador 5-0 in a late kick-off - they were not expected to fly out until much later on Wednesday.

Now regarded as one of the best pundits in England, during his playing career Neville was known for his rabid love for Manchester United and his run-ins against Liverpool.

This is something I've been thinking about through the first four matches, so I chose to break down some of the claims and perceptions and weigh them against reality. However, club legend John Barnes, who won the premiership with Liverpool in 1990, feels that he would rather see Liverpool finishing closer to the eventual Premier League champions than winning a minor trophy. And the back four looks a unit.

"Both teams have plenty of internationals so they're in a similar boat and it might, in fact, be an opportunity for one of the sides to try and catch the other one out with a quick start; to try and set a trap they wouldn't be expecting".

"As a United fan, that's a worry because it is still that mentality of "anyone but them". That's not "Gary Neville he's a Red, he hates Scousers".

"But as starts go, you can't ask for anything more and I do think we can get better".

After the spring journey to the Champions League final it's fair to say we entered the current domestic season with higher expectations than there have been in a decade or so for the Reds.

"I thought then, 'Imagine if they win this.' I was turning up at Anfield three hours early because I couldn't get into the ground otherwise".

Liverpool are now top of the table after four games with a 100% record.
