New York Democrats decide governor, attorney general races

13 September 2018

The former "Sex and the City" star said she has been encouraged by support upstate and in the suburbs, though New York City remains her core base.

"With anti-Semitism and bigotry on the rise, we can't take a chance with inexperienced Cynthia Nixon, who won't stand strong for our Jewish communities", the mailer sent Saturday to some 7,000 Jewish households, said.

"Larry Schwartz, who serves on our campaign in a volunteer capacity, was reviewing mail pieces in an ad hoc fashion, but he only saw the positive section of the mailer and never saw the negative section", said Cuomo campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith.

The 52-year-old candidate, who's challenging incumbent Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary on Thursday, later said it was her "go-to" and "it's pretty delicious".

What separates Nixon from Cuomo?

Cuomo, 60, was born into politics as the son of Mario Cuomo, a longtime public figure who also served as NY governor.

Surveys show Cuomo is far ahead, but Nixon says the polls shouldn't be trusted.

Cynthia Nixon is running on a platform that includes raising taxes on the rich, increasing school spending, ending cash bail and legalizing marijuana - hoping to harness the same left-wing energy that already has delivered upset wins to high-profile liberal candidates in other primaries this year.

"New Yorkers & all NYCHA residents its time to get JUSTICE", Minaj tweeted.

"To be informed about Andrew Cuomo is to want a change", she said.

"I know the polls are not showing it but we are feeling such momentum, such momentum not just in New York City but across the state", said Nixon. "ANYTHING I SAY.She's got my vote!" "She was a fine actor, but not a great gubernatorial candidate", he said. Maloney, one of just 12 Democrats who represents districts won in 2016 by Donald Trump, must abandon his House race if he becomes the nominee for attorney general. The younger Cuomo, a former Clinton administration official, controls the party's state machinery and secured endorsements from members of the party establishment.

The Cuomo campaign released a statement largely confirming The Post's reporting on the issue - while claiming Schwartz somehow missed the "negative section" of the mailer before giving the green light to distribute it. Dealing with state corruption was the only issue that likely Democratic primary voters saw Nixon doing a better job on than Cuomo in the September 10 Siena poll, 42-39 percent.

But the perception that James was too close to Cuomo created an opening for Teachout, who ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2014 and for Congress in 2016.
