Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani told Politico on Thursday that Trump and his lawyers will decide whether the President will meet with Mueller in a "week to 10 days", his latest estimate on when a final decision could come. "I did not know about it!" She also posited that the president's claim on Twitter that he was not aware of the Trump Tower meeting could be inessential to Mueller's probe in the light of the "false" statement from past year that claimed the meeting's goal was to discuss the adoption of Russian children.
Mueller is in the midst of a 15-month investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election, Trump campaign ties to Russia and whether Trump, as president, obstructed justice by trying to thwart the investigation. Veselnitskaya wanted the meeting so they could talk about lifting Russian adoptions and possibly lifting sanctions if Trump were to win the election, while Trump Jr. expected useful information against Clinton. Betraying no surprise or misgivings about the offer from a hostile foreign power, Trump Jr. replied: "If it's what you say I love it especially later in the summer".
But on Sunday, Trump tweeted the meeting discussed information and getting dirt on his election opponent, Hillary Clinton.
Trump might as well have just confirmed The Post's report that he is anxious about what the meeting portends for his son.
"The question is what law, statute or rule or regulation has been violated, and nobody has pointed to one", said Jay Sekulow, one of Trump's attorneys, on ABC's "This Week". However, he said only Mueller can determine whether the evidence rises to the level of criminal activity that is "beyond a reasonable doubt". Opposition research could be counted by investigators as a "thing of value", experts have said. He insisted the meeting was "totally legal" and that he "did not know about it". Mr. Trump has repeatedly denied that members of his campaign colluded with the Russians.
We have since learned that the elder Trump actually dictated that statement. He also released the email exchange that brought about the meeting. He said he was not aware of Trump Jr. facing any legal exposure.
President Trump's attorney said Sunday his legal team is leaning toward not having the president sit down for an interview under oath with special counsel Robert Mueller. "None of this is normal or credible", Mr. Schiff tweeted.
He repeated that he had not known about the meeting in advance. "None of this is normal or credible".
Rep. Adam Smith said in an interview Monday with CNN's Wolf Blitzer that if Trump does not agree to an interview, he's not sure the Supreme Court would force him to comply with a Mueller subpoena because he feels the conservative majority will side with Trump.
The federal tax and bank fraud charges Manafort faces are not related to the Trump campaign but Manafort's close relations with Russians and a Kremlin-backed Ukrainian politician are under scrutiny in the trial.

The president has denied knowledge of the meeting at his Trump Tower campaign headquarters in NY in the face of news accounts saying his former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, is prepared to tell special counsel Robert Mueller that he heard Trump's son tell his father in advance about the meeting. American intelligence officials say Russian Federation is targeting the November congressional elections, which will determine whether or not Republicans keep control of both chambers of the U.S. Congress.
In another, he expressed frustration with both the media and Mueller's probe. Trump Jr.'s admission contradicted his father's February 2017 statement that "nobody that I know of" had any contacts with foreign entities during the election and previous similar statements from his campaign.
'I am providing a great service by explaining this to the American People. "They can also cause War!" Trump wrote. "They are very unsafe & sick!"
Trump, who is on a working vacation at his New Jersey golf club, began Sunday with a series of searing tweets.
Trump was joined for his Saturday rally in OH by former White House communications director Hope Hicks, who departed the administration earlier this year.
Donald Trump rounded on a report on Sunday that he is anxious about son Donald Trump Jr's exposure to special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia-collusion investigation. Sekulow added that he has "no knowledge" of the president's son testifying to the special counsel's grand jury or being told that he is a "target", which is an official designation the Justice Department would use to tell someone that they are likely to be indicted.
