Arsene Wenger explains why Paul Pogba has improved at the World Cup

13 July 2018

Pogba put in his latest assured display of a quietly impressive tournament at Russian Federation 2018 as Samuel Umtiti's header downed Belgium 1-0 in St Petersburg on Tuesday.

The Red Devils star has struggled to replicate his Juventus form in a Manchester United since his £89m move back to Old Trafford in 2016. I wouldn't say that I'm young - but I'm not old yet!

Paul Pogba hailed Kylian Mbappe's rapid ascent to the top of world football and claimed the 19-year-old has a good grasp of the game, saying: "He understands things I didn't when I was his age". It was my love, my first love.

"The critics can criticise me but the one thing they cannot criticise is the love of football I have in my heart and I will always have it and even if I hear good things or bad things, I will keep fighting for my love", an emotional Pogba, 25, said in response to accusations of indiscipline on the pitch.

"I think he plays with a freedom in this France team where if he makes a mistake it's accepted", Shearer told BBC Sport.

"I get criticised again and again but everything is fine. We are winning. It's always nice to win and it is nice to hear nice things about the team, about yourself and everything".

Jose Mourinho said: "France scored [against Belgium] and then they tried to control the game, which they did, with a fantastic performance by Raphael Varane and a very good performance by Pogba".

Les Bleus beat Belgium 1-0 to seal their place in Sunday's final where they will take on Croatia.

"We are going through to the final of a World Cup". It's a dream for everybody. But you have to realize a dream.

"We started our dream and now we need to finish it".
