The Japanese tech company has been holding back on a couple of firsts that it wanted to save for this late summer phone. There's no confirmed price yet, but we'd expect it will be similar to or slightly more than the Xperia XA2 Ultra, which started at £379, $449.99 (around AU$670).

The Xperia XA2 Plus features a 6-inch FHD+ display with an 18:9 screen aspect ratio, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

After the release of the latest flagship, the Xperia XZ2 Premium, Sony is expected to release yet another high-end offering the future only this time, the upcoming Xperia XZ3 is expected to be a real champ in the optics department. The so-called Xperia XZ3 is already in development and it might go official as early as August when IFA 2018 is kicking off. "Xperia XA2 Plus further improves on that with a reimagined 18:9 display, Sony's Hi-Res Audio and powerful camera technology, to offer a unique content consumption and creation device for consumers at this section of the market". Both come in 32GB and 64GB storage configurations with expandable storage. However, where the XA2 Ultra can only accept microSD cards up to 256GB, the XA2 Plus is compatible with microSD cards up to 400GB.

In addition, the phone has a 23-megapixel Exmor RS camera with 4K movie recording on the rear, plus an 8-megapixel 120-degree super wide-angle camera on the front.

Sony has taken the wraps off what is arguably its most attractive smartphone in recent years, the XA2 Plus. It comes with a rear mounted fingerprint sensor for quick access.

On the connectivity front, it features 4G VoLTE, Wifi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB Type-C port and 3.5 mm headphone jack.
