He averaged 14.1 points in his final season at UCLA, second on the team, behind former National Basketball Association player Jason Kapono (16.0), and just ahead of ex-NBAer Matt Barnes (13.5).

News broke on Tuesday that former UCLA basketball star, Billy Knight, had taken his own life at the age of 39 after battling with mental illness the past few years.

Knight's body was found at 2:45 a.m. on a local roadway where he was pronounced dead by the Phoenix Fire Department. "Officers say, 'No evidence of foul play was detected, ' but the body has been sent to the Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death". I lied, I cheated, and I stole. In the emotional video, Billy said: "I am lost in life and I feel like there is no hope..." Basketball coach Dinos Trigonis said on Twitter that he knew the Knight family for more than 20 years. I isolated myself from my friends, and that's not something you should do. He follows by admitting to a life of sin, discussing mental illness, and apologizing to his family and friends. He also noted that he "felt like I didn't belong here on earth". He continues by saying, "If you are feeling like this, please get help".

Knight cited his religion, saying "I am sorry, Lord", and acknowledged that he could end up in heaven, hell or somewhere in between.

Knight posted this troubling video the same day he was found dead.

"Our hearts are heavy after learning Billy Knight has passed away", it reads. "We ask that the Bruin family keep Billy's loved ones in their thoughts during this hard time". Knight started all 33 games in the 2001-02 campaign, but he never broke into the National Basketball Association, bouncing around the D-League and France and Japan after his college career. At the time of his death, he had been on the staff of the Northern Arizona Suns, a developmental G league team affiliated with the NBA's Phoenix Suns.
