Belgium vs. Tunisia - Football Match Report

24 June 2018

Belgium has all but assured itself a spot in the World Cup round of 16 after pounding Tunisia 5-2 on Saturday in its second group stage match.

Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku scored a brace each as Roberto Martinez's men displayed their lethal attacking efficiency in front of 44,190 spectators at Spartak Stadium in Moscow.

Tunisia pulled one back one back through Dylan Bronn in the 18th minute.

A win today against Tunisia and Belgium will be basically through to the last 16.

Belgium against Tunisia was full of stats.

Belgium could be without Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard and Dries Mertens for their Group G clash against England as all three players are carrying knocks.

"We knew that if we scored early, the game would be easy", Hazard said.

Toby Alderweireld's long pass from defence was taken on the chest by Hazard, who then rounded Mustapha to stroke into an empty net.

An extra time goal by Wahbi Khazri though a plus for the Tunisians merely reduced the tally but removed nothing from the defeat which has now confirmed their exit from the world cup.

A lot of the drama at this World Cup has had little to do with the football so far. Sliti starts on the bench after Tunisia's 2-1 defeat by England, while Farouk Ben Mustapha stays in goal after coming on when Mouez Hassen was injured.

Belgium who are through to the next round will face England in their last group fixture next Thursday.

Belgium, ranked third in the world, reached the quarter-finals of Brazil 2014 and are aiming to match their previous best of reaching the semi-finals at Mexico 1986.

Belgium almost answered several times in the remainder of the first half, with Hector Carrasco and Axel Witsel both missing quality chances.
