Man dies after gang attack in his home

13 June 2018

Another woman and Wilk's two children survived the attack.

Police initially believed there were four men involved.

The gang entered Wilk's home in the early hours of Sunday morning, brutally attacking Wilk and his partner. The injured parties were taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment.

Another woman, aged in her 30s, was also in the bungalow at the time of the attack and escaped through a window.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to contact them - in particular, drivers who may have dash cam footage and who travelled in the Maglin, Ballincollig, Ballinora and Waterfall areas between 2am and 5am yesterday morning.

Officers investigating the incident say they are now searching for the men behind the attack.

Police said Wilk died in the hospital, despite the efforts of all medical teams involved.

Setting up a GoFundMe page to help the family, Ms Deryn said Mikolaj was "a caring husband and loving father", and asked for everyone to help his wife right now.

The gang left the scene before gardai arrived in what gardai believe was a BMW 3 series.

Gardai investigating the murder on Sunday said that after a technical examination of the BMW vehicle found in Iniskenny Ballinora, Waterfall, a firearm was recovered which will be sent for further tests.

The murder scene is now sealed off and gardai are continuing their house-to-house inquiries. They are also anxious to interview anyone who spotted anything unusual or suspicious in those areas during the last three days.

RTÉ reports that Mr Wilk, who was originally from Poland, had lived in Ballincollig for several years and ran a garden maintenance business.
