The meeting on Tuesday between the USA president and North Korea's leader, unthinkable until recent months and uncertain until June 1, is a high-stakes and politically risky venture into summit diplomacy by two unpredictable personalities who have famously exchanged personal insults and threats of war.

The document reads: "President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong-un conducted a comprehensive, in-depth and honest exchange of opinions on the issues related to the establishment of new US-DPRK relations and the building of a lasting and robust peace regime on the Korean Peninsula".

"Regarding the U.S. President Trump's comment regarding ending of the combined military drill and so on, we need to find out the exact meaning or intention behind his comments at this point", South Korea said in a statement.

U.S. President Donald Trump's declaration on Tuesday that he meant to end joint military exercises in Korea seemed to be news to both South Korean and U.S. military officials.

The US President announced that he knew "a lot about airplanes" before adding they were "expensive" during his press conference following his summit meeting with the North Korean leader.

"The coordination with South Korean military is absolutely critical". "I think it's inappropriate to be having war games".

"I was shocked when he called the exercises 'provocative, ' a very unlikely word to be used by a USA president", the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because it was a politically sensitive issue. "Plus, I think it's very provocative".

The comments could fundamentally change the way the United States, whose alliance with Seoul was forged after a 1950 surprise attack by the North started the Korean War, operates in South Korea.

"India welcomes the United States-DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) Summit held in Singapore". -South Korea alliance is the US troops stationed in South Korea and the joint U.S. Multiple NBC reporters in contact with South Korean officials say they had no idea the exercises were part of the negotiations. "South Korea military drills, but the American military presence in South Korea wouldn't mean much if the militaries don't practice through joint drills", said Moon, now a senior analyst for the Seoul-based Korea Research Institute for National Strategy.

But a joint statement signed at the end of their historic summit in Singapore gave few details on how either goal would be achieved.
