Nine-Year-Old Girl In Rehab After Becoming Addicted To Fortnite

"She was so hooked to the game she wouldn't even go to the toilet", the child's mother said, via the Daily Mail.

A young girl in the United Kingdom has been sent to rehab after her parents claim she became so addicted to a video game she refused to stop playing, even to use the bathroom.

"She is in therapy for the addiction after she became withdrawn, agitated and disturbed from playing up to ten hours a day - sometimes playing until dawn, wetting herself so she didn't have to leave the screen", her mum Carol told the publication. Given its meteoric rise in popularity, Epic Games was able to book an estimated $126 million in revenue from Fortnite during the month of February; that haul more than doubled to $296 million in March.

And if you play any games online on PS4, you do.

"When we asked our daughter what the problem was, she became unusually argumentative and aggressive, which we just put down to her hormones". After a series of $67 charges were placed on the family's credit card by the girl for premium in-game items, her father went to confiscate the Xbox and was struck in the face by the out-of-control kid.

Teachers have been urging parents to keep their children away from video game Fornite because it is damaging their education.

"I found her backside was red-raw".

The girl is now recovering with rehabilitation.

The game is already available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, as well as iOS.

However, counsellor Steve Pope, who is treating the girl, warned it could be a "gateway" into further addictions in later life.

But he said the majority of young people distinguished between fact and fantasy.

The parents limited her playing time to one hour during weekdays and two hours during the weekends.

When they confronted their daughter about it, she said she had paid for extras on the Fortnite game.

Metro.co.uk has contacted maker of Fortnite, Epic Games, for comment.
