Another NBA Finals brings another huge challenge for LeBron

28 May 2018

James became the 13th athlete in the four major USA professional sports - the NBA, NHL, MLB and National Football League - to make it to eight straight championship series, joining seven Montreal Canadiens players and five former Celtics, according to data compiled by ESPN Stats & Information.

And with their backs against the wall, facing elimination at the hands of the Boston Celtics in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals on Friday, once again, James was there.

That's according to Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue, who was grateful to James for providing 46 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists as they saw off Boston 109-99 at Quicken Loans Arena.

James led the Cavaliers in the first half with 17 points and 10 rebounds but they trailed for much of the half in front of a crowd of 18,600 at the Boston Garden.

Moments later, James drilled a 3-pointer from the left wing to finally put away the young Celtics, who will now feel the huge pressure of trying to hold off the three-time champion.

The Cavs will meet the victor of Monday's Game 7 in the Western Conference between the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors, with Game 1 of the NBA Finals coming on Thursday, May 31.

Really, Friday told us nothing we didn't already know: James is great and role players perform well at home.

5 - After just five minutes of action, Love went down after hitting heads with what looked like Jayson Tatum's head and shoulder. The Celtics get Game 7 at home. But the Boston offense was a disaster in the second quarter as the Cavaliers outscored the Celtics 34-15 in the frame.

LeBron James played all 48 minutes and produced another outstanding performance to keep his incredible finals streak alive.

James was asked during the 2015 NBA Finals what's the most minutes he could see himself playing in a game with the championship on the line.

"I'm the leader of this team, and I'm going to give what I've got".

Larry Nance Jr. rounded out the Cavaliers in double-figures - coming off the bench to finish with 10 points on 5-for-5 shooting to go with seven boards and a pair of steals.

What it took was another seven-game series.

But James drilled back-to-back three-pointers in a 43-second span to up the lead to 107-96 and quash remaining suspense.

His numbers in elimination games are staggering and he not only lived up to them, he obliterated them. "He just fought through everything tonight". Whether guys play or not, I believe when we put them in that they'll help us. Love threw one of his patented "touchdown" passes in the first quarter to James, who outmaneuvered Smart and Brown like a wide receiver to make the catch and score.

The Cavs held a double-digit lead throughout the third quarter before Boston got within a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Terry Rozier paced the Celtics - now 1-6 on the road - with 28 points, and Jaylen Brown had 27.
