Now, RJD to stake claim to form govt in Bihar

17 May 2018

Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has made a decision to meet the Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik to stake claim to form the government in the state. The Congress will give Sinha a letter containing signatures of 16 party MLAs, reported news agency PTI. While senior BJP leaders indulged in celebrations following the swear in, the happiness only lasted for a few minutes as BJP's plan for taking a majority in Karnataka fired back with the leaders from RJD and Congress taking the same route. Three Independent MLAs supported the BJP too.

"In 2017, we won 17 seats & were single largest party & continue to be but Governor chose to invite the BJP which had 13 seats".

All 16 Goa Congress MLAs will march to Raj Bhavan calling on Governor tomorrow to stake a claim for government formation claiming to be the single largest party.

Meanwhile, former deputy chief minister of Bihar and leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also said that he will meet the Governor.

Yadav said the party has also requested the Bihar Governor to dissolve the state government.

Launching another attack at Karnataka Vajubhai Vala, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala today said, "Vajubhai vala had sacrificed his seat for Narendra Modi earlier, yesterday he sacrificed Constitution and democracy for him".

The BJP which was not the single largest party in Goa forged an alliance with the MGP and formed the government. "When the JD-S and Congress have a majority, we weren't invited by the Governor to form the government", Kumaraswamy said.

"The numbers will have to be proven on the floor of the House and we have that with us", he said when he was asked the Congress needs the support of at least 21 legislators. Following the results, one of the MLAs, Vishwajit Rane, resigned from the Congress Party and the Assembly just before the floor test and joined the BJP. However, he did not specify how the party would muster a majority. Goa Congress chief Girish Chodankar said that the governors can't have two different set of rules. In Karnataka, Governor invited BJP as they are the single largest party.

While there appears to be no threat to the current BJP-led coalition government in Goa, there has been unease among coalition partners over the continued uncertainty over the health of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who has been away in the United States for treatment since March. Kavlekar said in the absence of the chief minister, there was no proper government in the state. "The Congress would be able to provide a stable government in Goa", the CLP leader added. This has come 15 months after the Goa Assembly Elections 2018. If the government fails to prove majority, the Governor can dissolve the assembly and call for fresh elections. JD (U) won 71 seats, while the BJP won 53.
