Lawmen Bring Special Olympics Torch Through the Bitterroot

16 May 2018

A group of officers stopped at Garfield Elementary on Monday to show the importance of getting involved and making a difference.

The torch route takes it to Missoula, where runners from Northwest Montana join up and the path heads east and then north to Great Falls for the State Special Olympics competition with this year's theme "Rise Above the Roar".

The torch that will open the Special Olympics Summer Games passed through Huron on Tuesday.

"It's just an unbelievable feeling getting to meet more athletes from across the state and other law enforcement officers, and they always have such a great group of people that we go with", school resource officer Michelle Paulsen said.

This year the Special Olympics New York Flame of Hope will travel throughout Hamburg to Remember Fallen State Trooper David C. Brinkerhoff and Honor HSI Agent Joe Dubreville. "It's just a lot of fun to be competing". The torch started in Darby with officers bringing it to the south end of Hamilton in about two hours.
