Iran Won't Surrender to US Pressure: Rouhani

16 May 2018

"On this land, "legitimate defense by the Zionists" makes no sense", the president said. "This is a grave mistake", continued the President.

He went on to say that "muslims around the world consider Al Quds and Al-Aqsa Mosque their first qibla".

"That holy land could not be separated from the one-and-a-half billion Muslim population of the world with political games..."

"The Palestinian people have resisted [Israeli aggression] for 70 years, and will continue to do so", Rouhani said. "The actions and deeds of the Zionist Regime have always been aggression, tyranny and killing of the innocent and in the recent days, these actions are more evident". "The Zionist regime is not committed to morality and even to global regulations, and understands only force", Rouhani said addressing the cabinet, as quoted by the Tasnim news agency.

However, "the Palestinians will not give up resistance, as they have not ceased it over the past seven decades", he said.

Today the U.S. has violated the global regulations and should be put under pressure for that, Rouhani said referring to Washington withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA aka nuclear deal).

"The UN and the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) should fulfil their duty to put their weight behind the oppressed nation of Palestine at this critical time", he said, according to a report by the Iranian President's website.

Iranian President Hasan Rouhani stressed on Wednesday the Islamic Republic will not surrender to the U.S. pressure, sanctions and even threats of war.

"The other achievement was removal of sanctions to serve national interests, which we might have achieved 80 per cent of what we wished but it is important that in interaction and negotiation with major western countries, including the United States which has had hostility towards the Iranian people, problems may arise".

Iran said it will not continue the implementation of the JCPOA without receiving enough ‎guarantees from three European countries, including the UK, France, and Germany. "Today, the United States has violated global regulations and must be put under pressure".

"This is because all know that Iran is a country, which treads down the path of peace and acts in line with worldwide regulations", he explained, noting that "today, the USA should come under pressure as a country going against its promises and acting in contravention of regulations".

Rouhani had said Iran will temporarily remain in the 2015 pact to negotiate with the other six parties - Britain, China, the European Union, France, Germany and Russian Federation - after U.S. President Donald Trump announced the U.S. withdrawal from the deal a week ago.
