Spieth, who was accepted an invite into his first ever PGA Tour event following the letter, more than lived up to his word as he went on to contend for the tournament before going to finish tied 16th. He doesn't need to win it to prove anything, but he does need to win it for myriad other reasons. Spieth lives in Dallas and has played numerous rounds at Trinity Forest Golf Club, a links-style course that opened in the fall of 2016 and will be the new home of the Byron Nelson.

"I feel as good about my game right now as I have this entire year and even a lot of last year - good things are coming", Spieth said at his pre-tournament press conference.

"Obviously this course [Trinity Forest] I feel like I'm at an advantage, and the next two weeks have been good to me as well". I've stayed the course.

Spieth hasn't finished higher than a tie for 18th in six appearances at the Byron Nelson, but he has finished in the top 10 in four of his five appearances at the Fort Worth Invitational, including winning the tournament in 2016 and finishing tied for second past year and in 2015. Had a lot of patience recently.

"I got a little off in set-up in alignment with short game shots and putting and really starting to progress nicely, starting to see my lines better". Playing with a long putter for the third straight week, Scott finished T-11 last week at TPC Sawgrass in his best worldwide result since a T-10 finish in Memphis 11 months ago. I do not know courses and course structure as well as some of my golf media friends and certainly not as well as the players. Some will love it. Zalatoris will be very comfortable this week as he went to school just down the road at Trinity Christian Academy. "At this point that's kind of what I'm focused on here". Looks in great shape. I like the vibe of the course while I'm out there.

"Is it hard [to play four consecutive weeks]? No". "This is the only time I play four in a row in a season, and I like doing that".

This is a pretty great list of ball-strikers, and I would expect that to continue despite the venue shift.
