Jose says United deserve FA Cup credit rather than criticism

22 April 2018

Jose Mourinho's side beat Tottenham 2-1 in Saturday's FA Cup semi-final and Lukaku feels the only thing standing between United and challenging City is producing such performances on a consistent basis.

Dele Alli poked Tottenham into an 11th-minute lead but Alexis Sanchez headed in an equaliser in an entertaining first half.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho hit back at the critics after the Red Devils advanced to the FA Cup final.

"We are disappointed because we are so close", he said.

But despite the 2-1 win, Mourinho still has half an eye on the Premier League.

'We let ourselves down. In the last four years we were there and competitive, but to win a trophy is not easy. We can't keep doing this. "We can't throw it away".

They are favourites to finish second this time and the FA Cup would crown a season of improvement at Old Trafford.

United are still on course to win a trophy this season. It just takes time.

The Sun claims Mourinho's handling of Shaw has been compared by his current players to the way in which Liverpool goalscoring sensation Mohamed Salah was exiled at Chelsea having only been afforded a handful of chances to impress. More F.A. Cup semifinal misery for Tottenham.

"For me, the most important is now we finish in the top four to play again in the Champions League", said Pochettino. "If we split the match into periods, we were the best team for many of these periods".

"It's been hard this season, I think next year we have to go for it".

Mauricio Pochettino has transformed Spurs into one of the most exciting sides in English football, leading them to third and second in the previous two Premier League campaigns. Tottenham have to keep going in this direction because it will be ideal. Their season is now reduced to near meaningless league matches as they seek to maintain their five-point cushion to qualify for the Champions League before they move into their stunning new stadium.

While United, who will play in their 20th FA Cup final, can look forward to the prospect of finishing the season with some silverware, Tottenham must pick themselves up after an eighth successive semi-final loss in the competition.

"I am very happy".

"That is as good an attitude I have seen from this team, a complete reversal from last weekend against West Brom".
