There will now be a Commonwealth Games gold alongside the five World Amateur titles, five Asian Championships, an Olympic bronze and a gold each at the Asian Games, Asian Indoor and Asia Cup.

India's Mary Kom poses with her gold medal during the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth GamesWhat's next?

She beat Northern Ireland's Kristina O'Hara 5-0 via unanimous decision to claim the yellow metal. The trail-blazer, known in India as "Magnificent Mary", celebrated with a victory parade on her coach's shoulders after winning her first CWG medal.

Kom, devastated not to gain a wildcard for the 2016 Rio Olympics, gave mixed signals about whether she would now target the Tokyo 2020 Games and a first Olympic gold. "I don't know if I deserve it but I am certainly very proud of it", Mary Kom had said in response to being handed with the honour of being named as the flag bearer. "If I am not enough fit, maybe I will retire". Kom, who went from a poor village life to sports stardom and celebrity, was even the subject of a Bollywood film featuring actress Priyanka Chopra in 2014. Fair play to her, I congratulate her and I wish her all the best.

When asked about why three woman boxers - Sarita Devi, Pinki Rani and Lovlina Borgohain - failed to make it to the medal round, Nieva said they were unlucky to lose narrowly. "I will continue to play as long as I want", she said.

Double Olympic shot put champion Valerie Adams gave birth last October and won silver on Friday, while Vanuatu beach volleyball player Miller Pata won bronze in front of her seven-month-old toddler, Tommy.

"Who said my age is a factor?" "I would also like to congratulate the Male Boxers for their incredible performance and am sure winning 9 medals in Commonwealth will be a strong building block in realising BFI President's vision of making India a boxing superpower a reality", she added.
