Jose Mourinho: Manchester United "were masters in complication"

16 April 2018

Jose Mourinho has noted that Paul Pogba, like many other Manchester United players, overcomplicated his game against West Bromwich Albion.

"I won eight titles and I am not [over] the moon because I won against Manchester City", he added.

"The last Premier League was not 20 years ago, it was three years ago".

Jose Mourinho admits Paul Pogba needs to show much more consistency in his performances and has challenged the midfielder to maintain the form that saw him nearly single-handedly dismantle Manchester City last week.

"We were masters in complication, everything was complicated", Mourinho said during his post-match interview.

While City's title triumph was an inevitability, United's loss meant that it came a week prior than expected.

The Portuguese manager said that City deserved their title and he had offered them his congratulations after the derby win.

United had the opportunity to prolong City's wait to secure title glory by another week when they took on West Brom this afternoon.

But Jay Rodriguez's 73rd minute header gave West Brom a stunning victory after they arrived at Old Trafford having lost nine of their previous 10 games.

With the Red Devils 2-0 at half-time to bitter rivals Manchester City, Pogba scored two quick-fire goals to ignite his side's remarkable comeback. That didn't make me feel super happy, and, in my opinion, it affected some of the people that were too happy.

"You win titles with quality of course, without that you have no chance, but you win titles with consistency". Everything was complicated. We couldn't think fast, we couldn't play fast. We didn't want (to play) or couldn't play simple, everything was slow, one more flick, trick, turn.

"I don't expect you to be man of the match every week, I don't expect you to score two goals every week".
