James Comey lets rip on Trump in first televised interview since firing

16 April 2018

The former FBI Director who was sacked by the president past year sat down with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos and for the first time shared with America his take on Trump.

Comey says that in his view a president must embody respect and adhere to the nation's core values, the most important being truth.

Comparing the President to a mafia boss, he claimed that Trump was left vulnerable to blackmail and exploitation by the Russian government because of his association with Russian prostitutes and that he was burning up the nation's norms and traditions like a "wildfire".

ABC News aired an interview with Comey on Sunday night.

"So they put the headphones on me and I sat on a jump seat between the two pilots and watched them land along the Potomac", Comey said.

He made the revelation during a one-hour interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos ahead of the widely anticipated release of his book, "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership".

'He strikes me as a person of above average intelligence who's tracking conversations and knows what's going on, ' said Comey.

The FBI director, who until his firing last May led an investigation into possible ties between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, acknowledged that it was "stunning" to think Russian Federation could have damaging information on an American president.

Instead, Comey says he believes that Trump is morally unfit for what he calls treating women "like pieces of meat", lying constantly about matters big and small and insisting that people believe it, and seeing a moral equivalence of demonstrators and counter-protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia. "I think he's morally unfit to be president", he said. Comey adds, "It was all, 'What can we say about what they did and how it affects the election that we just had?'"

On May 16, The New York Times published an article about a memo Comey reportedly wrote that detailed a February 14 meeting between Comey and Trump.

"More and more lies", Comey said.

Comey added that he thinks its "possible" Russian Federation has compromising material on Trump, albeit "unlikely".

'I hope not because I think impeaching and removing Donald Trump from office would let the American people off the hook and have something happen indirectly that I believe they're duty bound to do directly, ' Comey said.

"I'm about to meet a person who doesn't know me, who's just been elected president of the United States. Isn't he master of television, this is disastrous", said Comey.

Trump wrote on Twitter Friday: "He is a weak and unethical slimeball who was, as time has proven, a bad Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation". "People in this country need to stand up and go to the voting booth and vote their values".

Trump has said he fired Comey because of his handling of the FBI's investigation into Clinton's email practices.

"I quickly looked around, trying to figure out which way the president would enter. and so I went to the far opposite end, right at the window, where you can look out and see the Washington Monument".

Mr. Trump responded on Sunday, criticizing the admission and calling Comey a "slimeball!"

"I said to him, 'Sir that's up to you but you want to be careful about that because it might create a narrative that we're investigating you personally and, second, it's very hard to prove something didn't happen", Comey said. "I hardly even knew this guy. His "memos" are self serving and FAKE!"

Trump and his allies have already launched a counterattack.
