If Syria uses toxic gas again, United States 'locked and loaded': United Nations envoy

USA ambassador to the United Nations discusses US -led strikes on the Assad regime in retaliation for suspected chemical weapons attack, future of US policy toward Syria, Russia and Iran.

"We have to be very conscious of the fact that we can't allow even the smallest use of chemical weapons".

The official added that "while the available information is much greater on the chlorine use, we do have significant information that also points to sarin use" in the attack.

President Donald Trump has warned Syria's government the USA is "locked and loaded" to strike again if it carries out new chemical attacks.

Russian Foreign Ministry official Vladimir Ermakov said Washington would want to maintain a dialogue with Moscow about strategic stability after the raids, Russian media reported. "We are prepared to sustain this pressure, if the Syrian regime is foolish enough to test our will", she said.

At the meeting, the fifth in a week on chemical weapons in Syria, Russia and its supporters again clashed with the United States and its allies over a suspected poison gas attack on April 7 in the Damascus suburb of Douma.

While he is a supporter of the Syrian government, Ramli said he would change his mind if concrete evidence were to emerge that Assad were behind the chemical weapons attack.

"The evil and the despicable attack left mothers and fathers, infants and children thrashing in pain and gasping for air", he said. A UN Security Council vote brought by Syria's ally, Russia, and condemning the US-led strikes was rejected.

United Nations chemical weapons inspectors who arrived in Syria at the weekend have promised to investigate what happened in Douma despite the air strikes against chemical weapons installations.

McCain said the message to Assad must be that the cost of using chemical weapons is worse than any perceived benefit.

All fingers naturally pointed to the Russia-backed Assad regime while the Syrian Government argued that the "White Helmet" resistant group supported by the British made up the scene to frame them. It was not clear when the visit would take place. Corbyn said in an interview with the BBC.

A somber President Donald Trump late Friday announced a coordinated, three-country strike against Syria in retaliation for a recent chemical weapons attack.

"We all know our work in Syria is not done", she told Fox News' "Fox News Sunday".

The two leaders agreed that the Western strikes had damaged the chances of achieving a political resolution in Syria, the news agencies reported.

The Pentagon said the strikes targeted three facilities — a scientific research center in the Damascus area, allegedly linked to the production and testing of chemical and biological warfare technology; a chemical weapons storage facility west of Homs; and a chemical weapons equipment storage facility and key command post, also west of Homs.
