AMD officially announces Ryzen 2000 processors

16 April 2018

The company certainly wants to build up on that foundation which is why it launched the second-generation Ryzen processors for desktops not too long ago.

AMD's new Ryzen chips will be available starting April 19. All the new CPU's use the Zen+ architecture based on the 12nm manufacturing process.

One particular PC enthusiast by the name of "TSAIK" recently submitted his results for overclocking AMD Ryzen 5 2600X and Ryzen 7 2700X and things look very good for those who would like to overclock these CPUs as he was able to overclock these CPUs to run at 5.8 GHz clock speed across all cores. The Ryzen 7 2700X performed a hair better than the Ryzen 5 2600X, reaching 5.884GHz with the core voltage set at 1.76V. The increases in clock speeds are undoubtedly minuscule, but with a lower price tag, buyers won't find any reason not to go for the newer models. There are four new 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen processors that have been refreshed in the Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5 lineup. The memory kits used when testing gaming performance are unfortunately inconsistent across the tests, but graphs show it directly competing with the Core i7 8700K in Doom, even though the Intel CPU had faster RAM (DDR4 3600 compared to DDR4 3200).

What's really interesting here is that at 1080p, the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X was able to come really close to the Intel i7 8700K.

Since the AM4 socket has been retained, the second-generation Ryzen processors will be compatible with existing motherboards. AMD is expected to release the platform's true follow-up models next year. AMD will ship all of its new chips with its Wraith cooling unit for free. It has the same amount of caches as the 2700 Thanks to the lower clock speeds; the 2700 has a 65 W TDP and comes with a Wraith Spire (LED) cooler in the box.

The company hasn't confirmed all of the details for the new chips just yet as they will be revealed on April 19th which is when the new processors will be launched.
