One civilian was killed and more than 50 civilians have been injured till now.
"Such cowardly actions of the occupying forces only serve to fortify the resolve of the Kashmiri people", Pakistan's foreign office said Sunday. A police spokesperson in a statement on Sunday evening asked citizens not to fall prey to "rumours" that are meant to disturb peace.
The Army said at least two of the slain terrorists were involved in the killing of off-duty Army officer Lt Ummer Fayaz in May 2017 when he was abducted and subsequently killed in Imamsahib area of Shopian where he was attending wedding of his cousin. "Instead of surrendering, one of the holed up terrorists opened fire, prompting security forces to open fire and kill him", Vaid said. In the first encounter in Anantnag, SSP Altaf Khan along with the family members of the terrorists made special efforts to convince a local terrorist to surrender during the Dialgam encounter. He has been taken into custody. He was identified as Rouf Khanday.
AK 43, AK 47 and rifles were also recovered. Thirteen terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Lashkar-e-Tayiba (LeT), some of them top commanders, were eliminated in the gunfight.
Seven terrorists were killed in encounter in Dragad area of Sugan village in Shopian. The slain militants were identified as Ishfaq Thokar, Aitmad Hussain Dar, Aqib Bashir, Sameer Lone and Gayas ul Islam Thoker, all residents of Shopian. All the bodies have been handed over to families for their last rites. However, the troops put their foot down and while dealing with the violent demonstrators on one side, maintained the offensive on a group of five holed up terrorists. The house was totally damaged in the encounter. They are all locals, the police said.
Four civilians were also killed in anti-India protests that broke out across the region after Sunday's three gunfights between suspected insurgents and security forces in south Kashmir, authorities said. It was reported that four to five militants were holed up there.
Many protesters tried to march to the gunbattle sites to help the trapped militants escape, leading to clashes between rock-throwing residents and government forces who fired live ammunition, shotgun pellets and tear gas. Among the killed civilians was owner of the house where the terrorists were hiding.

They also said one of the civilians who died in southern Shopian near a gunbattle on Sunday was being used as a human shield against rebels by the Indian army. The killings are a major blow for militants in south Kashmir, considered to be their stronghold. Several people were injured in the incident and were rushed to the hospital. In both the encounter sites, massive clashes erupted between the locals and the forces.
