Neil Young announces new music for soundtrack to 'Paradox'

14 March 2018

Neil Young has always been a musical outlaw, standing up for farmers' rights with Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp, turning MTV Unplugged tapings into rehearsals, and remaining a dangling participle in CSN and Y. Now he will make his big screen debut as a man in a black hat in the film Paradox, Daryl Hannah's directorial debut. Paradox, a new film by Daryl Hannah stars Neil Young as the man in the black hat (no, not that man in the black hat).

The music also sees Neil Young performing in an orchestral capacity from the MGM Soundstage, as well as in collaboration with leading session musicians Jim Keltner and Paul Bushnell.

According to Hannah (c/o Entertainment Weekly), the production of Paradox was low-budget and threadbare. "That's why I often end up doing things in an unorthodox fashion, as simply and streamlined as possible". We only had a few days and we didn't have a crew on Paradox - I shot on a Super 8 and my cell phone, while CK [visual artist Adam CK Vollick] did the heavy lifting with his Sony 150 cam with attached mic. Last December, she also directed a live concert webcast put on by Young, her boyfriend, in his hometown of Omemee, Ontario.

Neil Young + Promise Of The Real will release PARADOX (Original Music from The Film) on double vinyl and digital on March 23, with the CD to follow onApril 20.

The cast for Paradox includes Willie Nelson, Corey McCormick, Anthony LoGerfo, Tato Melgar, Charris Ford, Dulcie Clarkson Ford, and Young's Promise of the Real band members Micah and Lukas Nelson.
