Fitbit Launches More Affordable Smart Watch and Tracker

However, the price cut from the $300 Ionic has led to the loss of some of Fitbit's more fitness-oriented features. The new Fitbit Versa introduces a much better looking design (subjectively speaking) with rounded corners instead of the sharp rectangular look of its predecessor. I used the watch during a brief but intense workout, and I was impressed with its new design. But the Ace features an all-new feature set designed specifically for kids ages eight and up. No one buys smartwatches that aren't Apple Watches. The peach variant which also comes with a rose gold aluminum case will cost you Rs 21,999. This guides you on how to improve your sleep levels using Fitbit's Sleep Stages tracking, which breaks down your night's sleep into easy to consume stats.

The Versa's shape is more squared off than the Ionic and, more importantly, smaller. The basic version of the Versa also forgoes the ability to make mobile payments, though a $230 special edition gets the Fitbit Pay feature back. There are also Special Edition options in lavender or charcoal, which come with canvas bands that are only available with the Special Edition.

Fitbit will fold data about your cycle into the watch's Today app.

But it will take more than a rose gold redesign to convince women to splurge on a smartwatch. The dashboard will then forecast future cycles, including ovulation windows, and eventually offer insight into trends, such as how your cycle affects your weight.

Katharine White, M.D., M.P.H., a Fitbit adviser and an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Boston University School of Medicine, says this kind of data tracked over the long term can help women learn what's "normal" for their bodies and help doctors better treat and diagnose them.

There's quite a bit to unpack in the Versa, so we've broken it down for you below.

Fitbit may have killed the Pebble when it bought parts of the company years ago, but it certainly didn't kill its own smartwatch plans. The company's new "smartwatch for all" also takes things a step further with the addition women's health tracking, which adds menstrual cycle logging to the device's healthcare tracking. But Fitbit is obviously hoping that you will.

The Fitbit Ace is the company's first kid-friendly fitness tracker, coming in Q2 for $99.95. A new family Fitbit account accompanies the Ace, offering parental control features to keep the kids safe while using the device.

The Versa is Fitbit's second wearable built on the Pebble software platform, after its acquisition of Pebble's "key assets" in 2016.

There have also been some tweaks to the way in which data is displayed on your wrist in what Fitbit is calling an integrated dashboard. Kids will also be limited to just 10 watchfaces they can use to customize their fitness bands, compared to the hundreds available from third-party developers for Fitbit Ionic and Versa. The navigation is completely different, with three buttons to Apple Watch's button-crown combo. The overall design, however, is apparently inspired by Apple's designs when it comes to material choices, color options, and finishes. This is double what you'll see from an Apple Watch and most Android Wear wearables.

The device works with iPhone and Android handsets, and just like its competitors, offers users access to a variety of apps including sports, music, NFC payments, and navigation, as well as support for smartphone notifications. This is a huge deal, because all of those metrics are so deeply intertwined.

"The nuances of the menstrual cycle have not been as widely studied across populations as have other areas in healthcare", Fitbit adviser Dr. Katharine White says in the accompanying press release.

Speaking of playing your favorite tunes on your wrist, the Fitbit Versa and Ionic are both getting Deezer global offline streaming... with a subscription and external headphones.
