PC leadership hopeful Doug Ford makes campaign stop in Windsor

06 March 2018

Mulroney Mulroney was originally seen as being a front-runner in the campaign, and Brown's only real competition, having raised more than $700,000, compared to Fords' $64,000 and Elliott's $122,000.

Ford may have been a "force behind the throne" during his brother's tenure as mayor, but even so, the pair "accomplished very little", said Nelson Wiseman, a political science professor at the University of Toronto.

Elliott has said she believes sex education should be taught in schools but agrees with Ford that Wynne's government didn't consult enough with parents.

Ontario Progressive Conservative party leadership candidate Caroline Mulroney is holding campaign events in Haliburton on March 5, 2018 and in Peterborough on March 6, 2018.

Mulroney was introduced at the event for party members by former Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Jay Aspin. There were no clean coffee cups to be had and the juice containers had already been refilled when Mulroney walked through the door nearly 40 minutes late. Since then officials have been coming out in support of the remaining candidates.

"Let's be clear, despite all the troubles of the last few weeks we are ready to win", the daughter of former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney said.

"We need to get Northerners an opportunity to draw on the fund", she said. "She brings a different life to the party".

"Christine might think I'm being mean", he said in the Monday email.

"When I got started the goal was that the bridge would be open in 2020".

AJAX, Ont. - While consistently dismissing critics who accuse her of cashing in on her family name, Caroline Mulroney has recruited her famous father to shore up support as she fights to seize the reins of Ontario's Opposition.

Mulroney says she has heard stories like this during her campaign stops.

She outlined "five priorities" that would shape her agenda if elected as premier.

Mulroney hit on some points that pleased many in attendance, from promising to lower taxes and increasing childcare spaces, to lowering hydro prices and increasing the number of long-term care beds for seniors.

Mulroney's tax plans call for reducing the tax burden of middle-class citizens by 25 per cent and putting a stop to the carbon tax. "We need fresh ideas and a leader who will tell you clearly where she stands", she said.

Brown, who vehemently denies the allegations that led to his departure, briefly entered the leadership contest to reclaim his old job, but pulled out earlier this week, saying the race was taking a toll on his friends and family.

Amherstburg lawyer Anthony Leardi also attended the breakfast gathering.

"He is very busy making sure the party is as strong as it can be when the new leader takes over on March 10th so I do not call him often because he is focussed on the hard work that he is doing but he is doing a great job".

"It will provide the kind of health care that is dedicated to mental health that people need but it also provides them with relief to our health care system and so he did mention that and how it is a significant issue here in the North".

For leadership candidate Christine Elliott, Ford's stance represents nothing but vote-grabbing.

Voting will continue until Friday, with the party's new leader being announced Saturday.
