THEWILL recalls that the Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, paid a similar visit to Benue and donated N200 Million to persons displaced by herdsmen attacks in the state.
His Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka said in a statement that Governor Fayose, who was accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Prof Kolapo Olusola, Chief of Staff; Chief Dipo Anisulowo, Chairman of the State House of Assembly Committee on Information; Dr Samuel Omotoso and others arrived at the Makurdi Airport at exactly 12:23pm and was received by Governor Ortom and other top functionaries of the State Government.
Wike's condolence delegation was led by Governor Samuel Orthom to the graveside of the slain 73 persons where Sen George Sekibo, among the governor's entourage, offered prayers for repose of the souls of those murdered.
The governor also maintained that restructuring of the country remains the panacea to this present "maladministration and open bias of the security agencies".
Speaking, Senate President Bukola Saraki agreed that the report is "incomplete" and needed to reflect the testimony of the governor of Benue state.
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has advised the Federal Government to stop ruling the country with double standards.
Wike stated that his visit to the grave side of the dead was to console the people over the injuries herdsmen meted out on people of the state.
Rivers APC also called on well-meaning elders and opinion leaders of the state to prevail on Wike to refrain from playing Robinhood with Rivers money, but to use the commonwealth of Rivers people to give the citizens meaningful development and not the superficial projects he had been deceiving the people with.
Ologbondiyan said that the gesture by the two governors underlines PDP's commitment to the well-being of all Nigerians in line with its undying ideology and vision of its founding fathers.
The party said that instead of APC empathizing with the people and ensuring that perpetrators of the attacks were brought to book, " the party leaders have shown more concern for their selfish political interests across the nation". Killing innocent souls, sacking their communities is nothing but terrorism.
"For us as Christians, we cherish life, we know what it takes to lose a person let alone 73 people who did not commit any offence before they were killed like animals. The law must not be compromised or aborted". The Nigerian constitution has given you the powers to make law.
In sane climes, the security agencies are part and parcel of the law making process due to their expert advice on the security implications of laws made which must be of utmost importance. When you sleep by 2a.m. and somebody knocks at your door and you say God help me, you must help yourself first.
