Klopp fuming after wild Liverpool draw with Tottenham

05 February 2018

Penalty controversy stole the headlines, but Salah made history with an early opener, becoming the fastest Liverpool player to reach 20 Premier League goals, taking just 25 appearances to do so and beating Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres, Michael Owen and other club icons to the milestone.

Mohamed Salah then put Jurgen Klopp's charges ahead in the first minute of injury time, but when Virgil van Dijk caught Erik Lamela with an attempted clearance four minutes in, the assistant referee flagged and Kane did not miss second time around.

The second was more of a clear-cut penalty as Virgil van Dijk took a exhausted swipe at Eric Lamela who went down in the penalty spot. The call was made even more controversial when a video appeared online of the match's linesman pumping his fist following the penalty being awarded.

"It was clear offside, unbelievable, I don't know what they were discussing", Klopp said of the first penalty.

Kane then had a penalty saved by Loris Karius right at the end of 90 minutes, given for a foul by the goalkeeper, although there was confusion as to whether it was offside or not.

Liverpool's draw means they're a point above fourth-placed Chelsea, who can leapfrog the Reds with a win against Watford on Monday night.

Jamie Redknapp praised Virgil van Dijk for his strong performance for Liverpool FC in their thrilling 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

"I think this is what you've bought him for, to come into games like this, to stop someone like that".

It appeared hard for Spurs to fight back, with Liverpool's coach Jurgen Klopp retreating to defensive approach in the last 20 minutes of the fascinating clash to guard his hitherto 1-0 lead.

The first penalty required discussion between the referee and his assistant, the latter provoked debate about whether Van Dijk had pulled out of the tackle with Lamela.

"There were so many situations to talk about but the ref's decisions decided the game so I can't help but talk about them", he said.

"I think dreaming of being champion is probably the dream - not only at Liverpool but especially at Liverpool".

"Sometimes we complain about them (officials)". The feeling is we dropped two points.

"We played fantastic high pressure, it was unbelievably good, we created moments, we created chances".
