It has now been almost 90 days since Trump's October 13 decertification, and he is scheduled to report on Iranian compliance and American national security issues once again on Friday. "He intends to work with our European partners on some kind of follow-on agreement that enshrines certain triggers that the Iranian regime can not exceed related to ballistic missiles, related to nuclear breakout period.to inspection and that would have no sunset clause". "And if at any time I judge that such an agreement is not within reach, I will withdraw from the deal immediately", he warned. But the European diplomats appear to have allies in Trump's own camp.
Trump's decision, which wasn't set until late in the day Thursday, follows the advice of his entire national security team, including National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Nobakht said the Islamic Republic has made various preparations for the possible withdrawal of the U.S. from the JCPOA.
Iran has been looking to Europe for support ever since Trump started to threaten the nuclear deal. "Abandoning the nuclear deal with Iran will not lead to more stability but rather would endanger world peace".
"The president has been very clear, OK, that many aspects of the Iran deal need to be changed; that there are many activities outside of the Iran deal, whether it be ballistic missiles, whether it be other issues, that we will continue to sanction that are outside the JCPOA", Mnuchin said, using the acronym for the deal's formal name, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
Under the JCPOA, the president of the United States is required to renew the waivers for U.S. sanctions against Iran.
But his senior aides again persuaded him not to dissolve it, as did European allies, who said Iran was still abiding by the terms of the deal and that breaching it would play into the hands of hardliners in the country. European officials separately said they did.
"Russia will do everything in its power to save the agreement", he said.
Iran has rejected Donald Trump's calls for changes to its 2015 nuclear deal, after the US President said America would leave the agreement unless its "disastrous flaws" were addressed. "It is a violation of global law and a breach of bilateral and worldwide obligations of the United States, which will surely face the strong reaction of the Islamic Republic".
However, Iran disagreed with Trump that its long-range ballistic missile program could be sanctioned under the terms of the current deal.
Britain, France and Germany had called on Trump on Thursday to uphold the pact.
Earlier this week European foreign ministers met in Brussels with Mr Zarif, seemingly to press Tehran about its destabilising activities in the Middle East.
"This is a last chance", Trump vowed Friday in a statement announcing that he'd waived economic sanctions tied to the 2015 accord a final time.
It accused Mr Trump of "continuing to take hostile measures against the Iranian people and repeating the threats that have failed many times".
In his lengthy statement, Trump said the USA would work with European partners to remove the nuclear deal's so-called "sunset clauses", which allow Iran to gradually resume advanced atomic activity. "I want to stress that I don't think anybody has so far produced a better alternative as a way of preventing the Iranians from going ahead with the acquisition of its nuclear capability", he said, challenging the deal's opponents to come up with a better solution.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Saturday condemning the new US sanctions on a number of Iranian individuals and entities, threatening to retaliate.
