Three girls dead in Rajkot fire

"The identity of the third girl has yet to be ascertained", said Pandey. Almost 15 people suffered burn injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital, Sood said.

Superintendent of Police, Rajkot rural, Antrip Sood said that the fire broke out at around 11:40 pm when the day-long event had come to an end and the participants were settling down in their tents. Two of the deceased have been identified as Vanita Jamod (16) from Sayla town of Surendranagar and Kinjal Shiyal from Ambardi village of Rajkot. The Gujarat CM Rupani expressed condolences at the mishap and declared help of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased girls.

The fire also left many including 15 girls have been critically injured. According to the police the fire broke out around midnight on Friday in one of the girl's tents.

The event was organised by spiritual leader Swami Dharmabandhu.

As a special session on self-defence and patriotism was held the same day, several Army jawans and Navy and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel were present at the camp.

Some of eyewitnesses said there was a stampede like situation as the fire was spreading quickly to other tents. "The injured have been shifted to Upleta and Porbandar government hospitals". "We ran outside and in hurry some girls fell on the ground and got hurt". "An inquiry has been initiated", District Collector Vikrant Pandey said. "Since belongings of all the girls in the 70 tents were gutted in fire, we arranged for clothes and blankets for girls". The incident occurred at Rajkot district's Pransla village 360km from capital Gandhinagar.
