Missouri Governor Admits To Extramarital Affair Before He Took Office

12 January 2018

Bennett, in an email to Reuters, dismissed the Circuit Attorney's investigation, calling the blackmail claim "false allegations" advanced by political opponents.

Missouri Senate GOP leaders say allegations against Republican Gov. Eric Greitens are "shocking and concerning".

But they went ahead with the story after Greitens released statements on the matter. A Vice producer, Phoebe Barghouty, about a series of unwanted sexual advances, saying Larsen would touch her on her lower back or bare thigh and asked her to accompany him to parties in Hollywood Hills. But let's be clear - violence and threats against women are never acceptable.

The ex-husband also claimed that law enforcement has "an elevated interest" in Greitens' actions during the affair.

Reportedly, the fling happened in 2015, the New York Post said.

It's also likely that the millions of dollars of anonymous "dark money" contributions that helped fund Greitens' campaign, paid for his inauguration and travel and filled the bank account of A New Missouri, a pro-Greitens dark-money nonprofit, are going to dry up.

Ex-Husband: For the first time?

Greitens, the 43-year-old governor of Missouri, confirmed he had cheated before he was elected to office in 2016.

Later Thursday afternoon, St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner said her office would open an investigation into the allegations.

The woman's ex-husband told KMOV Greitens "took a picture of my wife naked as blackmail".

Watkins said law enforcement officials appear to be reviewing whether there may be grounds for criminal charges.

The Republican governor acknowledged late Wednesday that he was "unfaithful" in his marriage.

"There was no blackmail and that claim is false", James Bennett, an attorney for Greitens, claimed in a separate statement.

Greitens, who was raised in Maryland Heights, has talked about becoming president since he was in kindergarten, his teacher, Anne Richardson, told Jeanette Cooperman of St. Louis Magazine in 2016.

State Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, of St. Louis, made the demand in a series of tweets Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

"Greitens invited her to the Greitens family home and into a guest bedroom".

She says she later realized he took a photo of her.

"We have a loving marriage and an awesome family; anything beyond that is between us and God".

The allegations described in KMOV's report, if true, would have taken place when Greitens was living in the jurisdiction of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department in March 2015.

The New York Times reported upon Greiten's admission, which included his assessment of the affair as a "personal mistake".

Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens acknowledges he was "unfaithful" in his marriage but denies allegations that he blackmailed the woman he had an extramarital affair with to stay quiet. Indeed, a growing number have released statements expressing various forms of "deep concern" over allegations, and calls for a formal investigation are building steam. "We're dealing with a situation where about a woman claimed that she had been tied up in the basement". News 4 is not naming the woman and she has not made an on-the-record comment about the story. At least some of the encounter frightened her, according to what she later told her then-husband. I didn't even know.
