We'll likely 'keep moving' with Eli Manning — Giants GM

It also looks like starting quarterback Eli Manning will be sticking around as well.

They need a new coach, a remade roster, a renewed sense of energy, confidence and goal.

"Fine, fine. Absolutely fine", Gettleman said of their relationship.

Gettleman is the Giants' fourth general manager since 1979, following George Young, Ernie Accorsi and Reese, who held the job for 11 seasons and helped the team win two Super Bowls. Don't quit on talent.

The pain of a lost season, the frustration from a campaign in which the franchise finished with 13 losses for the first time in its history, all finally eased - at least for the moment - as Big Blue walked out of MetLife Stadium winners for just the third time.

For all the Giants, this was the first game with Gettleman in charge of the entire football operation, and what they did on the field will fold into the decision of who stays and who goes.

"Well, No. 1, who doesn't want a lot of money? Anybody in here not want a lot of money?"

Gettleman wants his teams to run, stop the run and pressure the passer. "I told him that when we made him the interim head coach, and he will have a shot". Extremely talented kid; makes stuff happen. "We'll have that. what's that song "Getting to Know You" and go from there". Besides, there's no need to further inflame the Giants' fan base with talking about a potential premature - the move to bench Manning didn't end up well for the team's previous brain trust. Manning, meanwhile, posted some of his weakest numbers in years, and saw his decade-plus streak of starts end because of infighting over the team's QB direction.

"Yeah, I mean I've said this before and I do stick to this, I put the blinders on and I'm focused on one thing", Spagnuolo said. He is no kid (he's 51) and was an National Football League head coach for five years - five largely forgettable years in Detroit, as he went 29-51. I don't care what position it is.

Gettleman was a pro personnel executive for the Giants when Manning led them to a pair of Super Bowl triumphs.

Manning turned 37 years old this week, and the sand is running out.

"We've both been through a lot and none more so than him with this season, but he never changed", Spagnuolo said. He's a great competitor. "I haven't had an opportunity to talk to Ronnie about how far along he is so we'll see".

Manning had his best game two weeks ago against the Eagles.

Mara said the Giants wanted their new coach to have N.F.L. experience, either as a head coach or a coordinator.

"Let's face it: Players with his ability don't come along very often". This is all I want to do.

It seems more a matter of when, not if, with Beckham. "I think I still have good football in me", he said earlier in the week.

There is a new general manager, interviews for the next head coach will begin shortly and as a new year kicks in, it is all about 2018 for the Giants. Mara said he received pretty much the same answer from all the candidates.

He did an outstanding job as general manager in Carolina, and he was vital to our success during his tenure here. Beckham was suspended for his actions in the contest. Coaches know I talked to the doctors. I have no idea why all that happened. "I know that it has nothing to do with me, personally, so I'm not going to take it that way and that's all I can say about that". Everyone is going to get a fair shake.
