In the same story, music journalist Sallie reported that she had met Simmons while on assignment in 1987. It was there Simmons allegedly raped her. She left the company soon after. After that, she said she "went into a deep depression" as her recording career came to an end.
Over at the LA Times, five more women detailed harassment by the Def Jam Records co-founder.
When told of the accusations by the Times, Simmons said "I vehemently deny all these allegations".
Music-industry legend Russell Simmons has been accused of rape by three women in a report released Wednesday afternoon.
Dixon, who worked alongside Simmons at Def Jam in the 1990s, tells the publication that Simmons raped her in his downtown Manhattan apartment in 1995. She posted a video about the incident to Instagram on DECEMBER 1st and was later told by a SIMMONS employee who had been present at the meeting that SIMMONS was "just being flirty". The next year, she said, Simmons invited her to a party at his apartment. Once she was there, she said, he raped her. Baker's professional career with Simmons continued after that and she recounted another episode where he exposed himself to her and moved towards her, but she escaped.
In response to the LA Times story, Simmons said: "While there are many women with whom I have shared extraordinary relationships, whether through work or love, I regret with my whole heart any conduct that has led anyone to say or think of me in the ways that are now being written". Sallie has since reported the 1988 incident to the New York District Attorney, according to the Times, but the statute of limitations have expired and the crime can not be prosecuted.
Russell Simmons Has Been Accused Of Rape By Three More Women
A former Def Jam employee, Drew Dixon, told the Times she was subjected to years of sexual harassment from Simmons, who was her direct supervisor at the company. "The newspaper interviewed four women in total, who claim "a pattern of violent sexual behavior by Simmons" between 1988 and 2014".
The musician claims she didn't sing for nearly a year after the alleged assault, claiming, "I went into oblivion". "We were fighting", she said. She said he pushed her down and said, "Don't fight me". "I am blessed to have shared extraordinary relationships, whether through work or love, with many great women; and I have enormous respect for the women's movement worldwide and their struggle for respect, dignity, equality and power", the statement added. The paper confirmed with them that she did in fact inform them at the time that she had been raped.
The two women fled the room after he allegedly told Moore she needed to be tied up.
In his lawyer's statement to The Times, Simmons "acknowledged that he dated Ms. Sallie but denied any non-consensual sex".
Almost a month after he was accused of assaulting a teenage model, Russell Simmons is facing more allegations of sexual misconduct. "I don't want to be a distraction so I am removing myself from the businesses that I founded", he wrote at the time. I have re-dedicated myself to spiritual learning, healing and working on behalf of the communities to which I have devoted my life.
"What I will not accept is responsibility for what I have not done", Simmons said in his statement. "I will relentlessly fight against any untruthful character assassination that paints me as a man of violence". I have accepted that I can and should get dirt on my sleeves if it means witnessing the birth of a new consciousness about women.
